Home, Belonging, Matter and Materiality

Much of my work is process-led, intuitive and spontaneous, growing out of a direct, physical connection with materials. I’m drawn to materials that change form, such as wax and plaster, and enjoy exploring their different states as liquids, solids and powders.

I’m interested in the nature of existence: the relationship between physical matter and the intangible, metaphysical aspects of being. I often question the social understandings through which we define what is real, present or accepted. I resist being confined by expectations, processes or outcomes, and want my work to retain a sense of freedom and possibility.

Alongside this more exploratory work, I return to themes of home, belonging and the sacred, often expressed through the shrines and icons I make. For me, home is more than a physical place; it is where I come from, where my soul originates. A longing for this sense of home runs through much of my work.

"One of the chief motives of artistic creation is certainly the need of feeling that we are essential in relationship to the world:
